It's about time I paint this iconic bird on a mug. I placed the herons against a habitat where I've encountered them most often: wetlands, with tall reeds and sandy beaches. I chose a transparent dark blue glaze for the background to match their color and added a second layer of rutile glaze on the rim to create a subtle green shade and some crystal action.
Approx 11 oz. Inside diameter of rim approx 2.75 in or 7 cm (can be a little small for some people's preference)
Microwave-safe and dishwasher-safe. Hand washing recommended for pieces with sculpted details.
Wheel-thrown stoneware, hand-sculpted and painted with underglazes and glazes.

Handwashing is recommended for pieces with sculpted details.
Even fully vitrified ceramics can absorb liquids over time if left soaking, especially in dirty or colored water, and get stained. Avoid prolonged soaking and rinse promptly after use.
Sudden temperature swings (like ice water into a hot mug or fridge-to-microwave) can cause cracks in ceramics over time. Letting pieces reach room temperature before heating or chilling helps them last longer.
