Sanderlings are long-distant migrants. They are known for incredible migratory journeys of 1,800 up to 6,000 miles to coastal beaches worldwide, including South America, Africa, and Australia. They travel between Arctic tundra nesting grounds and wintering habitats twice a year.
Each cup has three hand-painted sanderlings wrapping around. I made two, and they are very similar.
I sold this size of cup/bowl at a market, and people who came by and picked it up call it a sake bowl, a holder for their daily pills, a shot glass, a sauce bowl, etc., which made me happy that a piece can serve many functions. I don't have a designated function for it; it is yours to decide.
Volume: ~2 oz
Wheel-thrown (or occationally slab-built) stoneware, hand-sculpted and painted with underglazes and glazes.
Care Guide
Care Guide
for ceramic drinkware & tableware
- Dishwasher-safe. Handwashing is recommended to best preserve your favorite critters.
- Microwave-safe with caution. White clay pieces are generally fine. Dark clays (brown, red, or black) tend to overheat in my experience, so microwaving is not advised, or use extra care when handling.
- Avoid sudden temperature shifts. Let pieces reach room temperature before heating or chilling.
- Avoid soaking in standing water for long to prevent staining.
