Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers Mug
Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers Mug

This mug features a male and female ivory-billed woodpecker, a species now possibly extinct due to early-1900s habitat loss and hunting. Though not yet listed as "Extinct". there hasn’t been a widely accepted, confirmed sighting since 1944, leaving it to exist as a memory through only a few black-and-white archival photos. It feels as though we have been witnessing its extinction.
I used a soft, hazy glaze over the birds to echo that fading ghostlike presence, making this mug a small tribute to a species we may never see again.
Volume: 14 oz.
Wheel-thrown (or occationally slab-built) stoneware, hand-sculpted and painted with underglazes and glazes.
Care Guide
Care Guide
for ceramic drinkware & tableware
- Dishwasher-safe. Handwashing is recommended to best preserve your favorite critters.
- Microwave-safe with caution. White clay pieces are generally fine. Dark clays (brown, red, or black) tend to overheat in my experience, so microwaving is not advised, or use extra care when handling.
- Avoid sudden temperature shifts. Let pieces reach room temperature before heating or chilling.
- Avoid soaking in standing water for long to prevent staining.
